Job Summary
- Responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the MLS Education program;
- Participates in the budget preparation process for the MLS Education program
- Responsible for maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program.
- Has regular and consistent contact with students, faculty and program personnel.
- Plans and coordinates all student learning activities including lectures, tests, and grades.
- Demonstrates understanding by following all policies and procedures established by hospital and laboratory departments.
- Assists in the teaching and training of fellow employees and students performing laboratory tasks.
- Compliance with and documentation of all regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
- The MLS program director must have a faculty or clinical appointment at the sponsoring institution.
- Uses good problem-solving skills and judgment in dealing with problem situations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- At least three years teaching experience.
- Masters or Doctoral degree.
- Bachelors degree from a U.S. accredited college or university with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical or biological science is required.
- ASCP-BOC or ASCPi -BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or nationally recognized certification/licensure for international or non-US programs.
- Current Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners Clinical Laboratory Scientist License is required.
- Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
- BLS within 30 days of employment is required.
- Completion of a NAACLS approved school of Medical Technology is preferred.
