Position Overview

As a Physical Therapist in our Rehabilitation Services department, you will plan and implement individualized treatment programs according to evidence-based physical therapy principles and practices. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes and work under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services. This direct hire, part-time position offers day shifts with enhanced weekend compensation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations and assessments of patients' physical condition, functional abilities, and rehabilitation needs
  • Develop and implement customized treatment programs including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, gait training, and mobility training
  • Administer physical therapy modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot/cold therapy, whirlpool, traction, and paraffin treatments
  • Provide patient education on proper use of assistive devices including wheelchairs, crutches, canes, walkers, braces, and prosthetic appliances
  • Complete thorough clinical documentation including evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in compliance with professional standards
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment programs as clinically indicated
  • Provide clinical guidance and supervision to physical therapy assistants and support staff
  • Maintain infection control protocols and adhere to universal precautions in all patient interactions
  • Ensure compliance with hospital safety policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in department meetings, continuing education programs, and professional development activities
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and supply management for the rehabilitation department
  • Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan from neonates to geriatric patients

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State Physical Therapy license or eligibility to obtain licensure at time of hire
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds independently and 150 pounds with assistance
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and customer service excellence
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and universal precautions
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation and electronic medical records

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a physical therapist in a hospital or acute care setting
  • Experience treating diverse patient populations across multiple age groups
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary team collaboration in healthcare settings
