Director of Nursing - Long Term Care

Director of Nursing – Skilled Nursing Facility | Waterloo, NY

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our skilled nursing team in Waterloo, New York. Salary Range: $118,250 - $137,500 annually (based on experience)

Position Overview

The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing all aspects of nursing operations within our skilled nursing facility. This role ensures that personal and team performance aligns with our commitment to creating a Healing Environment. The DON will design and implement systems for effective work allocation, communication, resource management, and staff development while maintaining full compliance with New York State long-term care regulations and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the nursing team including Nurse Managers, MDS Coordinator, and Safety Screening Associates
  • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and care standards that promote resident-centered care
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing skilled nursing facilities and long-term care
  • Foster staff engagement through clear expectations, professional development opportunities, and supportive leadership
  • Monitor and evaluate quality of care metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, department leaders, interdisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders
  • Manage nursing department budget, staffing levels, and resource allocation
  • Participate in strategic planning and facility-wide quality assurance programs
  • Conduct critical rounding and maintain active presence on nursing units
  • Model professionalism, effective communication, and commitment to safety, dignity, and respect
  • Provide exceptional customer service to residents, families, and staff
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and maintain HIPAA compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • License: Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing management or leadership experience
  • Long-Term Care Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage conflict, and foster staff empowerment and accountability
  • Strong knowledge of geriatric and adult population care needs including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety requirements
  • Ability to remain effective under pressure and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated customer service focus
  • Professional demeanor when working with medical staff, department leaders, residents, families, and the community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of New York State long-term care regulations and survey processes
  • Experience with MDS coordination, quality measures, and PDPM reimbursement
  • Certification in nursing leadership or gerontology
