The CNS assumes responsibility for maternity staff development programs in collaboration with department manager, obstetrics, and pediatrics medical staff, and education services, including but not limited to department specific annual skills fair, development of focused educational programs with facilitation from GNOSIS OB program, quarterly simulation drills, and fetal monitor strip/documentation reviews. Functions to support and maintain continuing competency-based credentialing of staff, including development, revision, and validation of required competencies.  Collaborates with staff and nursing leadership to advance nursing practice through innovative evidence-based research, including development and maintenance of department policy and procedure.

This Position Involves the Following:
  • Promotes role competence, learning, and change.
  • Assists with development, implementation, and monitoring of department process improvement projects. 
  • Develops, communicates, and maintains practices within the department to facilitate compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Is actively involved with initial orientation program of new employees and with specialties orientation of existing employees, including the development of orientation schedules/assignments, direct support to preceptor and orientee, and facilitating curriculum specific to department learning needs. Serves as a mentor to nurse lactation educator(s). Promotes and maintains cooperative working relationships with all departments and maintains flexibility within the role based on ongoing organizational need.

 
Who Will Be a Great Fit?  
  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Must be a New York State Registered Professional Nurse license in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • 5+ years recent clinical experience in obstetrics nursing required, with a strong emphasis on labor and delivery expertise.
  • Experience in supervision, curriculum development, and instructional design desired. Knowledge of adult education principles, learner-centered training, needs assessment and performance evaluation. 
  • Attainment of NRP instructor status within 1 year of hire.
  • Attainment of NCC EFM certification within 1 year of hire.
