Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer is responsible for proactively enhancing process and product quality, employing a continuous improvement mindset within established methods to consistently achieve accurate and precise results. The role involves determining customer requirements, establishing critical quality measures, key process characteristics, and control plans, and conducting Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to increase customer satisfaction and reduce deviations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process Improvement: Implement a "continuous improvement" approach to enhance process and product quality efficiently. Identify and suggest modifications to procedures for improved quality.

  2. Customer Requirements: Determine customer requirements from various documents and establish Critical to Quality measures, Key Process Characteristics, and control plans to reduce claims, remakes, scrap, and deviations.

  3. Data Analysis: Establish a framework for gathering and synthesizing data to detect and solve quality issues effectively. Use appropriate quality strategies, tools, and techniques to prevent recurrence.

  4. Process Stabilization: Stabilize processes and implement process controls (SPC) using statistical methods to establish and maintain process capability.

  5. Inspection and Measurement: Master inspection, measurement, and sampling methods. Lead efforts for method improvements (MSA).

  6. Quality Standards: Ensure company conformance to standards and internal audit processes. Assist in quality audits for various standards and communicate findings to suppliers.

  7. Training: Provide training on quality systems within the organization.

  8. Documentation: Prepare documents for management reviews, maintain a central Quality records database, and ensure integrity and accessibility of data. Maintain customer-required documents.

  9. Corrective Actions: Ensure timely resolution of internal and customer corrective actions and customer claims. Maintain supplier quality representative (SQR) requirements.

  10. Leadership: Coach, mentor, and answer technical questions from less experienced Quality personnel. Lead small sub-teams as needed.

  11. Safety: Follow and promote the use of safe working practices. Set an example for other
    Quality personnel regarding safety, policies, and procedures..

Who Will Be a Great Fit?  

  • Four Year College Degree in Metallurgical, Engineering, Chemistry, or technical discipline.
  • Certification as a Quality Engineer (e.g., CQE) is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO13485, AS9100, and/or Nadcap standards.
  • Expert knowledge of quality systems management, auditing principles, and problem-solving.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control methods.
  • Familiarity with heat treatment processes and metrology techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on larger assignments.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor less experienced engineers and collaborate with external partners.
  • Experience in developing audit schedules and compliance with planned arrangements.
