Hospital Facility Engineering Director

Job Description:

Join our team as the Director of Facility Engineering in a vibrant healthcare environment. We are seeking an experienced individual to manage our Facilities Department, ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of our site's physical plant, equipment, and assets. Reporting to the System Director of Facilities, you will collaborate to establish goals, objectives, and standards while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.


  1. Organize departmental structure and develop short and long-term goals and objectives.
  2. Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards for department operations.
  3. Consult on department budget, major purchase priorities, and capital budget expenditures.
  4. Interview, hire, train, and supervise department staff, ensuring performance standards are met.
  5. Review and monitor department practices, quality of work, and employee relations.
  6. Develop job descriptions, provide staff education, and promote professional growth and development.
  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and update practices as needed.
  8. Direct plant and engineering capability, ensuring efficient utilization of utilities.
  9. Coordinate with utility companies, inspectors, and insurance companies as necessary.
  10. Maintain computerized maintenance systems and equipment inventory control programs.
  11. Plan and oversee major repairs, renovations, and construction projects.
  12. Collaborate with professional consultants on facility planning and management.
  13. Participate in Medical Center committees and maintain professional affiliations.
  14. Attend annual mandatory educational programs and prioritize customer/patient satisfaction.


  • Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering or equivalent education/experience.
  • Previous Department Head experience in hospital facilities management and engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in automated maintenance tracking systems, cost containment, and efficiency improvements.
  • Formal business/management training preferred; P.E. registration desirable; Masters Degree preferred.
