Director of Surgical Services

Join a dynamic healthcare team as the Director of Surgical Services, overseeing a comprehensive perioperative program in a Level 1 Trauma facility. The surgical services department comprises 17 operating rooms spread across three separate surgical areas, including four CVORs, three Burn ORs, and the main ORs distributed across three floors. The surgical volume encompasses 7,000 inpatient surgeries and an additional 9,000 outpatient surgeries, totaling 16,000 procedures annually. The department boasts six XI Robots, a Mazor Robot, and a robust orthopedic program. With a commitment to patient safety and quality care, the Director of Surgical Services will report to the Chief Operating Officer and play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's growth agenda.

Operational Leadership:
  • Lead the perioperative team with a focus on safe patient care.
  • Provide 24/7 oversight for the surgical services department.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies.
Problem-Solving and Communication:
  • Identify and address real/potential problems affecting the service.
  • Actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees.
  • Facilitate communication of departmental, organizational, and industry information to staff.
Employee Development and Engagement:
  • Coach subordinates through feedback, constructive critique, and individual development plans.
  • Implement evidence-based employee engagement practices.
  • Mentor potential future leaders within the department.
Quality Assurance and Patient Safety:
  • Enforce standards of care for surgical services.
  • Develop and oversee a PI program to monitor and evaluate critical aspects of care.
  • Monitor and respond to quality event reporting.
  • Support new program strategies and enhancements to expand patient services.
Financial Management:
  • Develop, prioritize, and defend capital equipment requests.
  • Ensure fiscal management of the department and proper utilization of financial resources.
Strategic Growth and Partnerships:
  • Advance the growth agenda for Surgical Services.
  • Strive to become the OR of Choice for physicians, patients, staff, and payers in the community.
  • Build strategic internal and external networks.

Who Will Be a Great Fit?  

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred.
  • Current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of practice required.
  • Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) and Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) certifications preferred.
