Dietetic Technician

Join our team as a Dietetic Technician, where you will provide essential nutrition care services in collaboration with registered dietitian nutritionists and other healthcare professionals. This role focuses on the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, promoting overall health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:

    • Conduct nutrition assessments within the scope of Dietetic Technician-Registered guidelines.
    • Implement and monitor nutritional interventions assigned by the RDN.
    • Estimate and document patient nutritional intakes, assisting with calorie counts and data collection as needed.
    • Identify patients requiring further RD assessment and refer appropriately.
    • Educate patients and families on special diets and formulas, with referrals for outpatient follow-ups if necessary.
    • Maintain proficiency in nutritional content, sources, and use of commercial supplements and feeding modulars.
    • Input and update outpatient diet records for analysis.
  • Enteral Feeding & Human Milk Management:

    • Accurately prepare and deliver patient enteral feeding orders.
    • Manage human milk inventory, ensuring safe handling and adherence to regulations.
    • Educate on nutrition and lactation, contributing to development projects.
  • Business Functions:

    • Exhibit a friendly and efficient demeanor, adhering to CHOP ICARE Values.
    • Engage in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
    • Document activities, maintain productivity, and ensure patient confidentiality.
    • Train other employees as needed.
  • Professional Development:

    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
    • Participate in departmental meetings and educational programs.
    • Stay current with professional development and maintain necessary registrations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Associate's Degree in Nutrition or a related field (Required)
    • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
  • Experience:

    • Previous experience in a hospital setting or with a WIC program (Preferred)
  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • Dietetic Technician-Registered (DTR) within 9 months (Required)
    • Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) and Serv Safe Certification (Preferred)

Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English
  • Basic knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and nutrient analysis
  • Competence in mathematical calculations, including fractions and percentages
